V5 perspective

Capacity is a claim.
Performance is evidence.

The list of genuinely successful commercial RAS facilities remains much shorter than industry publicity suggests.

V5 treats a project as implemented only when fish have been stocked and harvested at commercial scale, repeat biological performance is visible, customers are buying the product and operating economics can be tested. Announced capacity, construction completion or a ceremonial first harvest is not enough.

Repeat operations and established sales.

The most credible European full-grow-out RAS references combine accumulated operating knowledge, regular harvests and disciplined scale.

Successfully operating at commercial scale, although detailed profitability and FCR data remain private.

02 · Recently implemented

Strong biology, still proving steady state.

This facility has moved decisively beyond construction, but requires more repeat cycles before long-run economics can be treated as proven.

Stage 1 and Stage 2 designed for a combined 8,000 tonnes.
Operating evidence
H1 2026 harvest of 2,133 tonnes HOG at an average 4.4 kg and 95% superior grade; first-half production reached 4,455 tonnes.
V5 assessment
The strongest recent large-scale ramp-up. Biological and market validation are convincing; economic profitability is still developing.

03 · Operating, not yet profitable

Commercial output is not the same as bankability.

This case demonstrates meaningful production capability. It also shows why harvest weight, FCR, pricing, liquidity and capital structure must be underwritten together.

Operating evidence
Q1 2026 production reached 773 tonnes, eFCR improved to 1.47 and revenue per kilogram reached €13.2.
V5 assessment
Biologically and commercially proven, but not yet financially profitable: FY2025 operational EBITDA remained negative €3.7 million. A highly relevant benchmark for V5's amberjack strategy.

Alicante Aquaculture

Greater amberjack · Seriola dumerili

The newest and most directly relevant project for V5 Greece is a 600-tonne RAS facility producing greater amberjack in the Port of Alicante.

Its approximately €15 million concentric-ring facility has commenced commercial-scale production. Repeat harvests, FCR, survival, production cost and profitability have not yet been demonstrated publicly. It is therefore a priority monitoring project, not yet a proven success.

Technology classification

Land-based does not automatically mean RAS.

Accurate classification matters because water treatment, energy intensity, biofilter risk and operating complexity differ materially.

Flow-through

Andfjord Salmon

Andfjord uses a proprietary flow-through system. Its strong biological performance is relevant to land-based aquaculture, but it should not be presented as RAS.

Salmon Evolution

Salmon Evolution reuses approximately 65% of its water and does not use a conventional RAS biofilter. It is a hybrid flow-through system, not full RAS.

Investment caution

Atlantic Sapphire should not be cited as a successful investment precedent. Producing fish did not prevent repeated capital requirements and a major 2026 restructuring. Operational output alone is not investment success.

Implications for V5

Apply the system to the species, site and market.

RAS is not a universal template. The right production architecture depends on biology, utilities, climate, operational capability and customer economics.

Denmark

Danish Salmon and Skagen Salmon are the most credible full-grow-out operating references. Nordic Aqua adds important evidence from a recent large-scale ramp-up.

Greece

Kingfish Zeeland is the best established Seriola benchmark. Alicante is the most relevant exact-species project, but remains under validation.

Oman

Oman's proposed first asset is an integrated land-based greater amberjack platform, not salmon. Seriola operating evidence informs the concept, but bankability must be established under the project's specific Omani site, utility and market conditions.

Deployment rule

Use RAS where control creates value, particularly for broodstock, hatchery, nursery and post-smolt. Consider advanced FTS, hybrid or marine grow-out where conditions support them.
